Valkyrja in Victoria wins best observation (sighting and/or story)
Prize: $50 Amazon Gift Voucher

Valkyrja.jpg

“For national Eucalypt day, we walked along Welch's track looking for life on and around the trees which depend on eucalypts for habitat. Decaying logs and old dead trees are important habitat for insects and spiders. And indeed, at the start of the track we came across this huntsman, sleeping in an very exposed position on an old, dead eucalyptus. Unfortunately its face was positioned in shadow, its eyes were not observed however it did have a prominent "eyebrow" ridge. Its front legs were held such that any warning markings were unable to be seen under the first two leg pairs. Legs had knobbly knees though, and the pale brown abdomen had two lines of four black spots each. Middle two spots almost forming a dashed line. Apart from a slight movement of one leg, it remained in the same position for hours.”

From the QuestaGame Team:

”So many fantastic photos, including remarkable shots from Jamvanman, Milly Moo, SuChanRuss, Midge, Nomadcam and many others. This one stood out because of Valkyrja’s attention to detail in her field notes. We also liked the photo - note the bird in the sky plus the spider on the tree. Very cool. Nicely done!”
